Author Spotlight ~ Interview with Danielle Esplin

Please welcome Danielle Esplin to Genuine Jenn! Danielle has stopped by to share with our readers more about her newest book release and her writing.
Tell us a little bit about yourself and why/what inspired you to write? When did you start writing?

I’m a South African girl living in Seattle with my husband. I always wanted to write a book, and when I started to write Give it Back in 2015 I couldn’t stop. I got hooked, and I don’t think I’ll ever stop.

What was your inspiration for ‘Give it Back'?

I came to America as an au pair, and ideas surfaced as I worked in Bothell, Washington. I realized how easy it is for an au pair to get caught up in the middle of family drama. I mean, the person you let in your house could be dangerous. It’s extremely scary. The screening process is easy to pass. Not that I lied or anything (this has nothing to do with me, I promise)! But I just thought how eerie it actually is to let someone live with you, someone you don’t know at all.

What three words would you use to best describe Give it Back?

Fast-paced, riveting, unpredictable.

Can you tell us if you’re working on anything else at the moment?

Give it Back will be published on the 15th of April 2016. Plenty of reviewers asked me to write a sequel, so I’m considering that, depending on how well the book sells.

What was your very first book that you wrote?

Give it Back is my debut novel.

Other than your own, what are your favourite books?

Of the most recent books I’ve read, I enjoyed The Ripper Gene by Michael Ransom, and Love you More by Lisa Gardner.

When you are writing do you like to listen to music? What is on your playlist?

Sometimes. I’ll usually search for suspenseful music on YouTube and listen to a playlist on there.

Who is your favorite character in your books?

Ella Jensen. She’s fierce, a little sarcastic, and driven.

Do you ever take characteristics or nuances from close friends or family when working on character development and if so has that friend or family member noticed and what was their response to it?

No not really. I’m thinking about it because there are things my husband does that are too funny not to write about.

What’s your favorite treat?

Since I moved to America, French Silk Ice Cream.

What’s your Favorite place to read/write?

I don’t have a favorite place. I move around too much for that. Any place with a beautiful scenery.

If you could live anywhere in the world, where would it be?

I’m someone who can live in the city, suburbs or on a farm. But I would like to live among the trees, perhaps with a lake nearby. Somewhere secluded. But not too far of a drive to the city.
