The Yule Miracle (An Accords Series Novella) by Dawn Prough ~ Book Review

Book Description:

All Royce wants is to be left alone after being exiled from his family and community. He’s built a small house for himself in the wilderness of Alaska, where he doesn’t have to remember his past. He’s mostly succeeded, but the memory of his younger brother’s body haunts him. When he rescues a woman who needs to get to her dying brother, those memories propel him to help her, even at the cost of his secrets.

Royce tells Nahla not to trust him but he’s saved her life once and is getting her to her brother’s hospital. She can’t help but be drawn to him, especially when she learns what he can shift into a bear. The more he tells her, the more she wants to know. But when she makes a fateful choice, the price for getting to her holiday miracle might be too high.

The Yule Miracle is a 21,000 word novella, and is the second story in the Accords Tales.

About the Author:

Dawn started writing in college, but she’s been telling herself stories as long as she can remember. At first, they were just ways to pass the time while doing chores on the farm, but they rapidly became an obsession. Now she shares that obsession with others, writing the stories she desperately wants to read but can’t find. She is professionally and independently published, and plans to have a long, prolific career as a hybrid author. She currently lives in Kansas City with lots of family and cats. Her interests, when she’s not jacked into the Internet, include horses, crocheting, action and horror movies, reading urban fantasy, science fiction, and fantasy, and discussing feminism, racism and other -isms in the media.

Review:

This is a short novella about a girl on her way to see her younger brother, who is dying of cancer, for Christmas. Nahla crashes her plane on her way there in the middle of nowhere on a lake. Royce, who lives in a secluded lake by himself is interrupted by a plane crashing.  He rescues Nahla and helps her reach her family and brother by Christmas. Royce has a secret though, he is a werebear. He can shape shift into a huge bear. Nahla and Royce venture to Anchorage to see Nahla's brother. Royce and Nahla start to fall for each other, the author doesn't go to far into this relationship but I think that is coming in book 3. I found the writing a little hard to get into as I didn't find it flowed like I would have liked it. I did like the concept of the story and think the author could really develop the story and characters a bit more.

I give this book a 3 out of 5 stars. I did enjoy it but I did struggle a bit to get into the story.
