This week on Author Spotlight Saturday we have Zoey Derrick. I just recently had the opportunity to read Zoey's Reason series. This is a great paranormal romance that involves Angels! I have to say I LOVE this series. It is available in a box set now of all 4 books.
Welcome to Genuine Jenn Zoey Derrick!
When was your first book published?
I
published my first book – Finding Love’s Wings – on May 5th, 2013
and it has been a wild ride ever since.
Are you currently working on anything?
I am currently working on three projects. 1 – Chasing Love’s
Wings is the sequel to Finding Love’s Wings. 2. A project I currently call
Xander, well because it doesn’t yet have a name. and 3. Devilish Desire, which
will dip back into my paranormal roots with Link and Nyssa’s story from The
Reason Series. So I am busy busy and loving EVERY minute of it.
Why did you decide to become an Author?
I decided to become an author because I have a gazzilion stories
to tell and I want to share them with as many people as possible.
Who and what inspired you to write?
I
had the honor of meeting the “who” inspired me. The wonderful Author Jamie
McGuire (Beautiful Disaster, Walking Disaster, Red Hill, etc.) at RomCon last
year in Colorado Springs, and I told her that her story was a true inspiration.
I read Beautiful Disaster before it became the huge success it is today and I
watched as Jamie’s career took off. It was inspirational that a beautiful woman
from Oklahoma could follow her dreams.
My son continues to inspire me to
keep writing. He knows that I write books, but strangely (thank goodness) he
never asks me if he can read one. But he is constantly asking me how much work
I got done and it is great because he is disappointed when I tell him I didn’t
get much done, or excited when I tell him I got a lot done.
When you are writing to you like to listen to music? What is
on your playlist?
Music is a requirement for my
writing. My playlist changes based on the book I’m writing. For example – The
Reason Series playlist consists of, but not limited to…
All I’ve Ever Needed by Paul
McDonald and Nikki Reed; Hard to Love by Lee Brice; Patient Love and Let Her Go
by Passenger; Let it Be sung by Tessanne Chin and Adam Levine; Just Give Me a
Reason by Pick and Nate Reusse; Stay by Rihanna ft. Mikki Ekko. Those are just
a few.
Finding Love’s Wings consists of a
lot of Adele, Snow Patrol and some recently added favorites, but the official
playlist will be out soon.
Who is your favorite character in your books?
Impossible to answer. I love all of my characters, each for
their own reasons. Vivienne and Cami because they are both strong and
determined women who wont let love spoil them. Mikah, well he’s a hot angel,
what more is needed there. And Tristan because he is pretty much every woman’s
fantasy man
But more than that, each character I
write possess something about me within them so they all become a part of who I
am, so picking one would be like cutting off my right arm. **grin**
Do you ever take characteristics or nuances from close
friends or family when working on character development and if so has that
friend or family member noticed and what was their response to it?
Sometimes. It depends on the character.
Although four of my best friends all have their own cameos in the Love’s Wings
books… Beau, Jolene, Naomi and Rayne are all based on real life friends of mine
and they all think its pretty cool! So I guess in that sense it’s pretty good.
What is your favorite book of all time?
I can’t, no way, nope, not in a million years can I pick just
one. I have several that whenever I need a good escape, I pick them up because
they fall into my top 10 – ready?
- Fifty Shades Trilogy
- Twilight Saga
- Anything by Nelson DeMille (Mystery/suspense)
- Gabriel’s Inferno/Rapture/Redemption by Sylvain Reynard
- Crossfire Series by Sylvia Day
- Beautiful/Walking Disaster (see above)
- The Black Dagger Brotherhood books by J.R. Ward
- Poughkeepsie by Debra Anastasia
- Lost Souls by Poppy Z. Brite
- Interview With A Master by Jason Luke – a newly added top 10 fave.
Because they are HOT, SEXY, STEAMY: they
include strong heroines, along with tattoos piercings and a bit of the not so
typical.
I have to ask! Will we see Mikah and Vivienne in any upcoming books??
I have to ask! Will we see Mikah and Vivienne in any upcoming books??
Jenn, I would be sad if you didn’t ask
and while nothing is set in stone right now, I do anticipate them making small
cameo appearances in Devilish Desire and there might be something else on the
negotiating table… But for now, my lips are sealed.
