Holiday Baking shoppertunity at Wal Mart #cbias

I love baking! Did I also mention I love eating baked goods! So when the recent Collective Bias (#cbias) shoppertunity came up for Holiday Bake Shoppertunity at Wal Mart I was very excited. The Holiday we were to shop for was Christmas but when I arrived at my Wal Mart there was no Christmas stuff to be found. Well a couple things but no baking stuff. I found a Wal Mart employee and asked when it would be in. She told me not until November, bummer.

So I asked if I could do a Halloween baking shop instead and here is what we decided to make. I spent some time on the Kraft website to see their Halloween ideas and found two that I thought would be easy for the kids to help make after school on Tuesday. I have tons of magazines and cookbooks but I also love looking for new recipes online and just recently on my iPhone apps.

The spider we decided to do alone and not on a cupcake. Something fun for the kids to have as a snack.
The cupcakes are very easy to make the recipe calls for a box of cake mix - to make the cake mix you will need milk, eggs and vegetable oil. The recipe called for Kool Aid to color the icing but I couldn't get orange so I did it with food coloring.

If you would like to check out my trip to Wal Mart I have put it up at Google + over here. First time using Google + so please go easy on me :) This I found a bit hard to write everything I wanted to say. Hmm, pictures say more than words? I talk too much sometimes I guess. I want to tell you about my expereince at Wal Mart. It was a pretty quiet morning, kids at school and off I went to do groceries and pick up some holiday items to do these two cute Halloween recipes.

I love shopping at Wal Mart as there prices are usually very reasonable especially if what you need isn't on sale and you don't have a coupon. My Wal Mart is under renovations and are expanding their food area! Yay!! I love shopping in the city for that reason. I am a shop around person and look for sales and combining coupons when I can. I do love the promotion set ups if the displays are nice and easy to find what you are looking for. Halloween section this year in in sections of costume ideas. It is a great idea!
I do compare each brand and size when buying pretty much anything. I am always looking for the best bang for my buck. I shop for Holiday baking supplies at holidays, usually once at Halloween but more than that at Christmas time. I bake a lot at Christmas and a few things at other holidays.

The recipes I chose were easy and quick to make as an afternoon activity after the kids got home from school. I did all the cupcake prep as they were at school and then let the cupcakes cool when we unpacked their backpacks.

The kids worked faster on decorating then I could go on icing the cupcakes. At one point A was double decorating! They had a ton of fun, this will definitely be an activity that we will do for all holidays knowing now how much they enjoy it. We usually decorate cookies every Christmas but I think we will now add cupcakes to our list of treats!

The spiders I chose for us to do were a bit harder than I thought and not something I would do all the time. They did turn out very cute though and the kids loved them as their after supper treat! I think using the shoe string licorice would be easier so I may try them again next year but with shoe string licorice.

All in all, we had a great afternoon of making some yummy Halloween treats! Happy Halloween!!
