With summer almost here and the weather being pretty nice we can finally call it bicycle weather! As a child I remember running outside and hopping on my bike touring the neighborhood. It was one of my favorite things to do once the warm weather came. Bikes are a great way of traveling, better for the environment and also a lot cheaper on gas. They are not just for children's enjoyment but also a mode of transportation for a lot of people around the world.
Cadbury has opened the Factory doors for a third year in a row. What factory you may ask? Cadbury has been opening a Bicycle Factory for the last three summers making bicycles for Ghana. Bicycles are everything to the people of Ghana. Since 2009, 9332 bikes have been built and delivered to Ghana. Please take a look at this video. (watch carefully as I will be asking you a question from it).
How Can I help? Running for a limited over the summer Canadians are able to purchase participating Cadbury products and upload the UPC to The Bicycle Factory. Each UPC code equals one virtual bike part. For every 100 parts donated, one real bike is created and delivered to communities in Ghana.
Check out all the great videos and information about The Bicycle Factory on their website, don't forget to watch the Documentary also.
Win It!
Canadian Coupon Mom has the opportunity to offer 2 Cadbury "Bike in a Basket" Gift baskets On behalf of Cadbury and Kraft Canada to two lucky readers. These baskets are equivalent to 100 bike parts and are made up of Cadbury chocolate, candies and gum.

I confess I didn't know that much about Ghana. Interestingly it was the first African country to gain it's independence. I guess they use bikes like we use cars...without it an average 6 hour walk to work and back (or shopping)...wow...makes me feel guilty for complaining about my "old" car--guess i am just lucky to have it at all.

I learned that ghana was the first place cadbury sourced (and still does) cocoa for chocolate and that bikes help people in rural areas to get to school and work and deliver goods for sale. Otherwise the walk is long and hard and takes up a good portion of the day

In Africa, a bicycle has many more important uses than simply being a bike. It can be essential to providing many vital services such as that of a delivery van, an ambulance, a water truck and a school bus.
